about me
Part of the Community
I was born and raised here in Columbia County, and this is where I am raising my family. My wife and I have three children aged 14, 9 and 6. I am very involved in my kids' activities being President of St. Helens little league. I am also an avid hunter and outdoorsman.
Uniquely Qualified
My working career has been spent in the marine trades. I have attended Fryar's Maritime Academy and Columbia Pacific Maritime School. I worked my way up as a tugboat deckhand to being a captain with a 1600 ton US Coast Guard Masters license by the age of 26. I am now the regional representative for the International Organization of Master's, Mates & Pilots covering the West.
An Involved Leader
My career has afforded me the opportunity to become a leader and to learn a great deal about the economics and commerce of this area. I've seen the lean times and the prosperous times. I have been attending Port meeting for over the last 2 years. With my experience as a captain, a leader and lifetime resident I think I am a good fit for the Port and our communities.
My Plan for the port
BRINGING PROSPERITY
If elected, I look forward to helping increase efforts to bring good paying jobs to the area and increasing our business tax base. This is the primary function of the Port.
More local good paying jobs keeps more people in the community with more money in their pockets to support our local businesses.
The Port of Columbia County has some great properties and assets from Scappoose to Clatskanie that can help this happen. Bringing in new businesses increases our tax base which provides more dollars available to provide much needed services like law enforcement and road improvements.
